On Sunday October 30 2022, a Whitehorse-wide Bioblitz was held. The aim was to identify animals and plants in their parklands.
Local Surrey Hills families and friends combed Bluebell Hill Reserve and discovered a surprising variety of fauna and flora, as the video shows.
These included:
Animals
Birds: magpies, lorikeets, noisy miners, galahs and a grey butcher bird
Insects: bees, wasps, bluebottle fly, dragonfly, white butterfly, white moth, brown and white moth, ants and a gnat
Arachnids: spiders — St Andrews Cross, red, black
Other invertebrates: millipedes, snails and slugs
Plants
Trees: eucalypts, wattle varieties, leptospermums (tea trees), acorns (oak)
Shrubs: grevillia species (red, cream, yellow flowering)
Other: moss, toadstools and mushrooms
